NEW: I Now Have a Patreon!

I launched a Patreon page! You can join at patreon.com/brucepoinsette. For as little as $3 a month, patrons will get premium content and community discussions that explore media theory and organizing, as well as early access to upcoming interview and event projects. Check out the about section below to learn more:

The media landscape is topsy-turvy, to say the least, especially for Black creatives. While traditional outlets and established personalities scramble to find the “next thing,” up and coming creators have a unique opportunity to reshape the narrative simply by creating the content and discussions we actually want to hear.

As a writer, organizer and educator who resides in predominately white Oregon, and works in large part, in its even whiter suburbs, I’ve come to realize that if I wait for the powers that be to create things to genuinely serve my needs, I’ll be waiting forever. Instead, I’ve built a career intentionally speaking to Black Oregonians in particular and marginalized communities throughout the state. Whether through articles, video interviews, speaking engagements, or facilitated discussions (not to mention all the community building in between), I’ve seen firsthand just how powerful media and communications can be as organizing tools.

With this Patreon page, I hope to build on that work with premium content and discussions that won’t be limited by the constraints of corporate partnerships and the nonprofit industrial complex. You can expect interviews, community discussions and video essays that tackle media theory and organizing, as well as provide plenty of insights and practical advice from my decade plus of professional experience in Oregon.

Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to building this community with you!
