Testimonials

Bruce Poinsette is an excellent editor. He has an eye for detail, he’s thorough, dedicated and conscientious. I was looking for an editor for my book, Collaboration through Consultation, and Bruce came highly recommended. I’m so glad I hired him!. He completed the work sooner than I expected and his revisions were spot-on. He made the editing phase the easiest part of the whole publishing process.

Mercatus had the privilege to work with Bruce on several projects. We needed someone that could write honestly about our program. He was able to connect with several participants and capture the essence of the program in an authentic way. Since our first project together we have contracted with Bruce several times for his ability to consistently deliver on time, well-written, and thoroughly researched pieces.

We asked Bruce to help us write about partners in rural Oregon after seeing his work on Urban League of Portland’s State of Black Oregon report. On a tight deadline, he wrote a concise, interesting story that highlighted our partner’s work and our organizational goals. If you’re looking for someone who brings narrative chops, accurate reporting, and a goal-driven approach, Bruce will deliver.

Imagine Black hired Bruce Poinsette to help support our Childcare Campaign. We were seeking a skilled storyteller who understood the unique child care challenges Black parents and providers face in Oregon. Bruce Poinsette embodied these goals and took the project to the next level. Through our work with Bruce, we influenced lawmakers to build a new child care system that works for everyone involved—parents, providers, and our kids. Bruce was such a fantastic collaborator on this project. He produced excellent content and stories for our campaign. He has a great understanding of Imagine Black’s voice, delivered on time, and produced remarkable stories for our digital exhibition. It was a pleasure to work with Bruce. We’ve had great experiences, and I would recommend Bruce for any project.

Bruce Poinsette has been a teaching artist with Writers in the Schools (WITS) at Literary Arts in Portland, Oregon since 2019. In this role, Bruce has designed thoughtful curriculum centered around journalism to high school students in the Portland Metro. Bruce approaches his collaborations with students, peers, and colleagues with the same intention and authenticity that is to be expected of Bruce’s work in the community. He’s an organizer that has built a meaningful platform around genuine relationship building and rigorous but welcoming discourse, and he brings these same traits plus openness and steadfast dedication to refinement of his craft as a teaching artist. He’s reliable, prepared, engaged, and has been a valuable asset to the WITS community, and we hope to work with Bruce for many years to come.

Working with Bruce is the chance to tap into a creative genius. He has the unique ability to weave accurate historic records into personal stories. Bruce was the lead writer  for the Black Heritage Markers project. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted for the copy until I got back his first draft.  He had a vision that supported and created the framework for rooting our readers in not only the historical but the personal. He also came ahead of deadline on a ridiculously complicated project.
